Building in Bristol named to National Register of Historic Places
The Cottage on King's Row in Round Pond in Bristol has been entered in the National Register of Historic Places, according to Kirk F. Mohney, director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. The Cottage on King's Row is a notable example of a Gothic Revival cottage that reflects the influence of of mid-19th century architects and authors Alexander Jackson Davis and Andrew Jackson Downing.
Bristol to Consider Budgets, Dog Park, Ordinance Amendments
In addition to voting on the municipal and education budgets, Bristol residents will also consider a citizen petition to establish a dog park in Bristol and changes to three ordinances during the annual town meeting Tuesday, March 22 at Bristol Consolidated School. Voters will consider the 2016-2017 education budget of $4,352,905.38, a decrease from the previous year of $88,857.62 or 2 percent.

Investigators suspect 'human element' in abandoned shack fire
The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office believes a "human element" contributed to a fire that destroyed an abandoned shack in the Round Pond area of Bristol the afternoon of Sunday, June 5. Bristol Fire Chief Paul Leeman Jr. said the one-story shack near the intersection of Coggins Road and Route 32 was a total loss, but firefighters from Bristol, Bremen, Damariscotta, and South Bristol were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a house on the property. The Lincoln County Communications Center paged the Bristol Fire Department at 1:25 p.m. Leeman said the fire was fully involved "with flames as high as 30 feet" when he arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.

New Coffee Shop Opens in Round Pond

Round Pond's mornings just became a lot more energized thanks to the opening of Round Pond Coffee on Monday, June 27. Located on Route 32 across the street from the Granite Hall Store, Round Pond Coffee aims to be a new local hang-out spot.

Stockton Springs appoints interim head after death of town manager
After the death of town manager Damaris "Marnie" Diffin last week following a short battle with cancer, selectmen on Thursday appointed an interim town manager to help keep the town going. "We're really heartbroken it happened," Selectman Peter Curley said of Diffin's death.
